Kosmos Innovation Center (KIC) has empowered coordinators from 629 schools through intensive nationwide training, setting the stage for the 2025 School Farm Awards. This milestone marks a pivotal step in fostering a new generation of young agripreneurs, transforming classrooms into vibrant hubs of sustainable farming and innovation.
The training, designed as a “Trainer of Trainees” workshop, equipped school coordinators with essential skills in good agronomic practices, pest and disease management, soil health, irrigation, and crop rotation.
Originating from the Blue Skies Foundation and now fully managed by KIC, the School Farm Program has grown exponentially since its inception. What began as a modest initiative has expanded to cover all 16 regions of Ghana, with over 18,000 students trained by the end of 2023.
For 2025, the program received over 1,000 applications from basic and secondary schools, highlighting its widespread appeal and the urgent need to shift perceptions of agriculture from a traditional livelihood to a dynamic, tech-driven career path. From these, 629 were selected and their coordinators trained, ensuring a strong foundation for the competition ahead. Participating schools received essential inputs like seeds, fertilizers, and basic farming tools to establish vegetable plots on campus.
As these trained schools now implement their projects, students are applying real-world techniques to grow crops sustainably. The competition will evaluate entries based on crop quality, innovative farming methods, environmental impact, and efforts to inspire peers toward agribusiness. Success stories from past years, such as schools that turned barren plots into thriving farms while boosting community awareness, highlight the program’s potential to address food security and youth unemployment.
With the 2025 KIC School Farm Awards set for November 14 at the KNUST Great Hall in Kumasi, excitement is building. This event will honor top performers, showcasing how trained educators and motivated students can drive Ghana’s agricultural revolution. By investing in these 629 schools, KIC is not just training coordinators, it’s seeding a future where young Ghanaians lead in sustainable agriculture, one farm at a time.
The Awards ceremony will be a celebration of this national impact, hosted with strong partners including Mastercard Foundation, Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service (GES), and Blue Skies Foundation. The event will recognize regional and national champions, rewarding their hard work with valuable prizes designed to further boost their schools’ educational infrastructure.
