What is YAF?

YAF is a student-led interactive forum where tertiary students can share and exchange ideas, interests and engage in activities pertaining to agriculture. YAF will provide capacity building and practical skills training for students, invest in changing the mindset and perceptions of young people and position agripreneurship as an exciting career of choice.

YAF is a campus based interactive forum and solely for students on campus.

Yes, one would have to apply through the YAF secretariat on campus. YAF operates as a student initiative supervised by the school of agriculture or a business incubation centre of the respective university implementing KIC partnership program.

  • Must be a tertiary student on campus.
  • Must be passionate/demonstrate interest in agriculture and entrepreneurship.
  • Willing to commit time for YAF activities.
  • Willing to abide by the rules and core values of the YAF program, KIC and the Mastercard Foundation.
  • Must be between the ages of 18 to 35
  • Must be willing to take up roles and responsibilities of YAF.
  • Must demonstrate adherence to YAF principles.

Currently, YAF is on 10 university campuses namely: University of Ghana, University of Cape Coast, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), University for Development Studies (UDS), SD Dombo University of Business Integrated Development Studies, Ho Technical University, Bolgatanga Technical University, Takoradi Technical University, Koforidua Technical University and University of Energy and Natural Resources. More universities will be added gradually.

  • YAF builds students capacity in the area of entrepreneurship and exposes them to the vast opportunities in agribusiness.
  • YAF provides students with networking and mentorship opportunities.
  • YAF provides internship opportunities for students.
  • YAF offers workshops and other events that develop the professional skills and knowledge of students.
  • YAF builds the leadership skills and experience of students as they take up roles and tasks in the association.

No; Only students on their respective campuses can join YAF.

Employment at KIC is strictly based on merits. Joining YAF does not automatically qualify you for employment at KIC. You would have to apply and go through the process just like any other person.

Employment at KIC is strictly based on merits. Joining YAF does not automatically qualify you for employment at KIC. You would have to apply and go through the process recruitment process.

No; Only students on their respective campuses can join YAF.

YAF operates based on a governance structure. For every campus, there are executive officers who run YAF activities. The executive officers report to a patron and a program officer who also have a reporting line to KIC.

YAF members are encouraged to engage in agribusiness related activities as a way of improving their knowledge and skills. YAF members are also encouraged to actively participate and contribute to YAF activities and events.

KIC reserves the right to dissociate itself from any member of YAF who may be involved in activities that are illegal or non-compliant with the values of KIC and its partners. KIC, its partners and other legal representatives will be indemnified of any damages arising thereof to such occurrences.

YAF executives and members do not serve as representatives of KIC and its partners and are therefore not expected to carry themselves about or conduct business with their members of other third parties, including but not limited to the media, other campus based organisations. Members of YAF can only have such exceptions to media engagements and participation in other programs once they are sanctioned by YAF executives, patron or persons assigned by KIC.
