When Kosmos Innovation Center (KIC) launched the 2017 AgriTech Challenge, one of its aims was to support bold young innovators with the tools, skills, and mentorship to build solutions that strengthen Ghana’s agricultural sector. Among those first startups was Agro Innova Ltd, a company now making waves in agri-technology more than half a decade later.
Founded in 2017, Agro Innova began with a clear mission: to use digital tools to help smallholder farmers and agribusinesses thrive in a rapidly changing agricultural landscape. Located in East Legon, Accra, the company has focused on developing technology that makes farming easier, smarter, and more profitable for youth and smallholders alike.
Digitizing Agriculture for Real Impact
One of Agro Innova’s standout innovations is AkokoTakra, a smart poultry farm management platform that enables farmers to record, monitor, and track their operations in real time. This tool allows poultry producers to manage feed, finances, weather updates, and livestock health from one dashboard, helping them make informed decisions and grow sustainable businesses.
Beyond poultry, Agro Innova continues to build digital solutions for wider agricultural value chains, including online marketplaces and farm management tools that support decision-making and link smallholder producers to markets and inputs. This digital approach helps bridge the gap between traditional farming and modern agribusiness.
Growing with Purpose and Partnership
Agro Innova’s journey shows how far structured support from early incubation program like KIC can lead. The exposure, mentorship, and network gained through the 2017 AgriTech Challenge helped lay the groundwork for the company’s visionary approach to technology in agriculture.
In 2020, they won the Outstanding Agro-Tech Company of the year award 2019/2020 at the Ghana Agriculture and Agro-Processing Awards.
Today, Agro Innova continues to expand its reach, empowering thousands of farmers with digital tools and training, and working with partners across regions to build resilient, tech-enabled agricultural systems.
A Decade of Impact and Inspiration
As KIC celebrates 10 years of building innovators, success stories like Agro Innova remind us of the power of opportunity, and what young entrepreneurs can achieve when they are given the right support and space to grow.
Agro Innova’s evolution from early AgriTech Challenge participant to a digital agriculture pioneer underscores a key truth: Innovation doesn’t just happen — it grows.
And it starts with people like the youth pushing boundaries, solving problems, and building solutions that matter.
