KIC commences nationwide seed distribution as schools prepare for 2026 School Farm Competition

The Kosmos Innovation Center (KIC) has commenced a nationwide seed distribution exercise to participating schools as part of preparations for the 2026 School Farm Competition.

The distribution marks a significant milestone in the implementation of this year’s competition, providing schools with essential planting materials to establish and manage their school farms. The initiative follows the successful completion of a virtual Training of Trainers (ToT) programme for teachers and school coordinators, equipping educators with the knowledge and methodologies required to guide students through the farming activities.

As part of the nationwide exercise, the KIC team visited participating schools across various regions to deliver seeds and engage teachers, coordinators, and school leadership on the importance of practical agricultural education. The visits also provided an opportunity to reinforce implementation guidelines, answer questions, and encourage schools to embrace innovative and sustainable farming practices throughout the competition period.

As part of the program, students will gain hands-on experience in crop production, from land preparation and planting to crop management, harvesting, and record-keeping. Beyond farming skills, the competition is designed to nurture teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, and entrepreneurial thinking among students, helping them understand agriculture as a sector driven by innovation and opportunity.

Speaking during the distribution exercise, Stanley Amamu, Program Manager for KIC highlighted the importance of providing schools with the right resources and support systems to ensure the success of the programme.

“The School Farm Competition Program is about creating opportunities for students to learn, experiment, innovate, and develop a deeper appreciation for agriculture. Through the Programme, we are investing in the next generation of agricultural leaders by connecting young people with practical experiences that can shape their future careers.”

The School Farm Competition forms part of KIC’s broader commitment to promoting youth participation in agriculture and building an ecosystem that inspires innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable food production. Through collaboration with key education stakeholders, the programme bridges the gap between classroom learning and practical agricultural application.

Implemented by KIC in partnership with the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education, the School Farm Competition brings together schools from across the country to compete while developing practical agricultural skills and promoting sustainable farming practices.

The programme originated from the Blue Skies Foundation and has continued to grow as a platform for empowering students to explore agriculture beyond traditional perceptions — positioning farming as a modern, innovative, and entrepreneurial pathway.

With teachers trained and seeds delivered, participating schools are now ready to begin their farming activities as they embark on another exciting season of learning, innovation, and agricultural excellence.
