As the world marks the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, Kosmos Innovation Center (KIC) is celebrating young girls who are proving that science, innovation, and leadership have no gender.
At the center of this celebration is Issabella Amartey, winner of the Best Female Student Award in the 2024 KIC School Farm Program. Through practical farming and science-based learning, Issabella developed strong leadership skills, confidence, and a passion for innovation.
For Issabella, who studied Home Economics, the School Farm Program became a space where she was able to apply her classroom learning in practical ways. Through activities such as observing plant growth, managing soil and water, and practicing climate-smart farming, she strengthened her understanding of how different subjects connect in real life. These hands-on experiences helped her develop strong problem-solving skills and a deeper appreciation for both science and everyday life applications.
Her commitment and hard work earned her a laptop, certificate, and plaque, supporting her academic journey and future ambitions.
In 2025, more young women followed in her footsteps. Abigail Nmabila Aduko of Abomosu STEM in the Eastern Region won the Best Female Student (SHS Category), while Rosina Yeboah of Anyinam D.A Girls Model and Delight Adeti of Amankwa Tornu D.A Basic in the Afram Plains were honoured in the JHS category. Each received digital learning tools and recognition for their excellence.
According to Benjamin Gyan-Kesse, Executive Director of KIC, “Empowering girls through science and agriculture is key to building sustainable communities and strong food systems.”
Through the KIC School Farm Program, young women are gaining leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills that prepare them for careers in agriculture, science, and innovation.
As KIC marks the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we call on partners and institutions to support initiatives that empower girls through practical STEM and agricultural education.
By investing in young women today, Ghana secures a stronger and more inclusive future.
